You probably wondered what’s the difference between kitchen curtains and other curtains used throughout the home. Curtains for the kitchen vary greatly in almost every aspect of its design. First they are usually lighter weight and this is necessary because unlike other curtains in the home, curtains designed for kitchens are cleaned more often. Cooking gives off aromas and humidity and this moisture makes its way into fabrics. This reason alone makes it necessary for a periodic washing. Other curtains in the home can’t withstand such routine washing because of a number of reasons, one of which the fabrics might be too gentle and whither or fade after several washes.
Kitchen curtains styles are are also much smaller in dimension and are usually installed on one kitchen window. The choice of fabrics also varies greatly from other curtains with some people opting for sheer or lace. Such people want to add privacy with inhibiting the fresh air flow that comes inside the kitchen. Some also want to balance privacy, air flow and sunlight. So the purpose of curtains for the kitchen differs, and for this reason they are designed and produced differently, ultimately there are suited for all aspects of kitchen activity.
Speaking of designs the most commonly used are:
Valance Swag and this design uses fabrics that runs along the top of the window in addition to both sides. The center at the top is left open and this is actually much simpler than it looks as all it requires is a curtain pole in which the fabric is looped at both sides with the fabric dropping down vertically.
Tiered kitchen curtains are a two piece design. A valance is placed atop the kitchen window with an opening in the middle. Although the opening is apparent the privacy level is enough to give people peace of mind from peeping toms. The second piece or a second curtain is placed horizontally underneath the valance and covers the bottom half of the window entirely.
Sheer kitchen curtains unlike the two previous designs cover the windows completely horizontally and vertically. This uses the most fabric and is also more elaborate.
Valance curtains are a one piece curtain that is installed on the top of the curtain and the purpose is style more than anything else. This particular curtain is not a favorite for those seeking privacy but it is a favored by those looking for simplicity. They make an otherwise bare kitchen window look good. Some want only that and if so then these will be an ideal choice for you.
