A small kitchen can be overwhelmed with groceries, appliances, dishes, utensils and other items that might clutter it. Something can be done about it but it will require creativity and a lot of planning. You have to study and analyze your floor plan to determine exactly where everything should go. Small kitchens should be designed with the principal of vertical storage as opposed to storing items horizontally. Every aspect of you kitchen must be considered especially if your kitchen is 110 square foot or less. Some furniture that medium to large size kitchens have such as tables and chairs might not be practical. You might also have to sacrifice a dishwasher if there is not enough space to maneuver. You first consideration will be your cabinets, storage and appliances. The following are tips and ideas will help you make the most out of your small kitchen.
Small Kitchen Designs and Ideas
Your kitchen should not have many counter tops that take a lot of space. Counter tops that give you enough space to prepare your food is more than adequate. If your kitchen has counter tops stretch along the entire length of the kitchen then a lot of storage space will be lost. Rather than all the kitchen cabinets that go above the counter tops a very high kitchen pantry might be a better idea for kitchens that lack space. The kitchen pantry can store so much more than wall mounted kitchen cabinets. They also extend upwards, a stool will be handy for you to reach the top of the pantry. A thin man pantry is also a good idea because you don’t want furniture that is too wide or bulges out.
A slim refrigerator is also perfect for small kitchens. You don’t have to worry about the height but the width should be no more than 24″. You can add more storage space buy mounting shelves or racks on the wall above your refrigerator. This will be better than just placing cereal boxes and other item directly on top or the fridge. This will give you maximum storage potential above your refrigerator.
Slim oven would also be a wise decision when limited space is concerned. You can easily find a stove that is 20″ or less in width. Alternatively you can also do away with a stove altogether and simply buy an electric portable two burner stove. These are convenient and won’t take that much space at all. If you enjoy baking and roasting then the slim oven shouldn’t take up a lot of space.
Depending on how much more space you might have available you may or may not have enough space for a small kitchen table. You don’t have to have bulky kitchen chairs as small stools will be adequate and storing them should not be a problem as you can slide them underneath the table.
Spices, dishes, cups and other things you frequently use can be stored on shelves. These shelves should be as thin as possible. The width of the shelves should be just enough to store your dishes and other things.
The kitchen items you use should also be small. It is not necessary to buy large canisters, containers, dishes and cups or anything that is bulky a small garbage bin is more suitable than a larger one. You should also limit the quantity of items because the more things you have the less space you will end up with. Simply buy what you need and nothing more. You might be tempted to buy something in bulk when on sale but keep in mind that you don’t have the space for it. The best small kitchen ideas are not just about the width of your appliances and furniture. It is also about how best you can utilize your space and that means everything. You don’t want junk or unnecessary things to pile on because your kitchen will become cluttered even after you implemented the small kitchen remodeling plan.

With my 8 by 10 kitchen, I moved the frig. away from the cabinet-corner, to other wall end, by it’s self, and had a regular step-in
‘ Pantry’, 2 ‘ 6″ by 5′ long built with ‘pocket-door’ added to the corner, and down to frig area space of 36″, also using a 24″ stove is allowing for better bottom drawer, and pull-out cabinets and counter-space. So far, need to find space for ‘ trash ‘ pull-out cabinet?, and I still have my ‘ under-cabinet Hanger’ for my toaster-over, that’s not on the market anymore? Is there clear-see-thru Patio-roofs ?,
that Roof, blocks my kit. window from getting the light, I would like.
