There are many ways to light up a kitchen and kitchen track lighting is one of the many options. This form of lighting consists of a track and fixtures that are attached to it. Inside these fixtures are light bulbs that vary in watts. Some tracks are simple and range from 4 to 6 feet in length. A basic tracking lighting kit is simple and holds either three or four 40-50 watt halogen directional lights. This kind of basic lighting is viable for directing light towards counters, storage, sink and oven area. They wouldn’t be a good option to direct light on a kitchen table or kitchen island. The ideal place to put these lights would be opposite side of where you wan to shine your lights. If you want to direct lights on a table the best place for the lights would be overhead where the lights would shine directly below.
You can use directional kitchen track lights to light up the center of the kitchen but this wouldn’t be the best way to use lights in this way. Kitchen island pendant track lighting would be a much better choice. If your island or table is small then a mini pendant with one light might be enough. Larger islands and tables could use pendants that have five or more lights. This is an elegant way to light up the center of your kitchen with track lights and would really put and emphasis on your kitchen design. Some people even place track lights in a circular pattern shining the lights inwards towards the center of the kitchen. Contemporary styles make things easier with wave bars and flexible track lights that point in all angles. This would be perfect to light up one area of the kitchen while the pendants provide light for the middle of the kitchen.
You’ll notice that some kits are very elegant, these tend to be the high end kits. Individual lights on these kits are often controlled individually so you can have some on, some off and you can also control which lights you want dimmed. Everything discussed so far pertains to styles and designs. What goes on the inside is equally important. The frame of the track is also important. It’s actually difficult to grasp the complete terminology when it comes to track lights. Knowing the basics about wiring, circuits, conductors and the type of material used is important in determining which kit is the best quality. Natural metals are always better than synthetic materials. Copper is actually used in the wiring and in the fixture itself, as copper is popular in shading. Copper, polished brass and nickel are certainly one of the better qualities. The quality of the light bulb is also important and you’ll realize that very good brands can be quite pricey. These are some of the things to think about, because you might be led to think that you have a quality kitchen track lighting kit when in actuality some of the materials are cheap.
