Have you ever reached a home department store to buy a kitchen curtain or valance only to be overwhelmed and confused? It’s okay because we all want to make sure we pick the right design for our kitchen window. The differences between valances and curtains are noticeable and a valance could be regarded as a mini curtain. It’s mini because it doesn’t cover an entire window nor does it open and close like curtains. It’s also a lot simpler than a curtain because there isn’t too much fabric. It’s actually quite beautiful but it’s understandable that it’s not the right kind of style for everyone. Kitchen curtains and valances have one thing in common though they come in many designs and look great in kitchens.

Whether you have a small window or several windows in your kitchen, valance curtains will look appropriate and beautiful. You have to ask yourself a few questions first and the answers should help you decide if you want either a valance or curtain. You can even get both because a valance and tier curtain are lovely when combined. If however you want one or the other then answering the following questions will help you decide what might be better for you.
1-Are you worried about privacy and don’t want your window to look too bare?
2-Is the sunlight that comes through your window too blinding and does it bother you?
3-Is your window poorly insulated and are you concerned with a windy draft coming in?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then a valance might not be in your best interest. The fabric is too minimal and won’t block out sunlight, cold drafts nor will it give you privacy. As I mentioned earlier you can install a tier underneath the valance for added privacy and to also block out the morning sun. You can regard a valance as a simple window covering that is more about decoration than it is about being a true curtain. It can be difficult choosing kitchen curtains and valances but the questions you answered here should help you decide what would be a better fit for your kitchen window.
