Gingham kitchen curtains are made of as the name suggests gingham. It is a woven fabric and made from cotton, but you can also find a synthetic variation too. This particular fabric is dyed and almost always comes in either a plaid or checkered design. The texture is similar to yarn although the threads are very fine. These kitchen curtains gained popularity in the early 19th century and ever since have decorated kitchen windows in many homes.

The abundance of colors and simplicity make them a hit with people who want a clean fresh look on their kitchen windows. So color is not issue, if you desire an orange gingham then no problem. Or maybe you prefer a tan gingham plaid curtain, either way you’ll have many options.

One thing to remember is that gingham kitchen curtains are actually the pattern and style of fabric. They are not the actual designs of the curtains. So if you wanted a gingham valance then you could, and if you wanted to add a tiered or privacy curtain you could as well.

I’ll post some images to give you an idea of how great they can look on your kitchen window. And again the type of curtain you want will be available if you do thorough research on line. Keep in mind that the synthetic fibers are a cheap gingham alternative. They will not look, nor feel as good as the authentic cotton ones. This obviously goes down to preference and also budget. But the synthetic variety come off as looking too cheap and too tacky.

The one thing I love about gingham curtains is that the style reminds me of the 50’s. That was when gingham was most popular and also a time when people matched their curtain with tablecloth.
